Summer's End...
Where I chat about another convention appearance, page counts, page flips, more page previews, and more free comics.
Hope everyone has had a fantastic summer! August was vacation time for me and it was filled with lots of fun activities: pickleball (try it, you’ll love it!), a vintage hard rock concert (first time seeing…Def Leppard!), a fair (no Wonderland or Disneyland in our neck of the woods), and camping! Back to work now, back to normal life…and that means another convention appearance!
Ottawa ComicCon September 9-11th
Come by and see me next week at the EY Centre! Along with my other books, I’ll have my newest book with me, the RAID anthology, Klaatu. Alessandro Micelli and I contributed a short story in there, called GOAL! Here’s a video flip through of the story with the soothing sounds of… wind.
GOAL!
Counting Pages
In 2020, I started keeping track of all the writing I do - specifically how many scripted comic book pages I write over the course of the year. This doesn’t include all the heady stuff or things like pitch documents or story outlines. Strictly script pages. I also included script pages I review translated from Italian, since I’ve started doing a lot of that as well. It was a way to remind myself of all the work I’ve done…and also to remind me when I needed to up my game and write a little more. My baseline was 1 scripted page per calendar day. 360-365 pages. That’s a good goal to start, I thought. If I could hit 360 scripted pages a year…that’s a lot of stories.
So…in 2020, I hit 320 scripted pages over 11 different projects. Not bad to start. And only one of the projects was a translation edit.
In 2021. I hit 380 scripted pages! Over 11 different projects again. This time, two of the projects involved translation, but less pages than in 2020.
This year, how am I doing so far? 476 scripted pages!!! Another big bump, this time for only 6 projects. But most of these scripted pages were related to translation edits. So while I’m happy with the number, I know I haven’t scripted as much this year from scratch as in previous years. And that’s okay. It’s been a year of stops and starts. I’ve pitched a lot of things this year…and once I get a green light on one of these projects, then the scripted pages will come.
Asteroid Adrift with gorgeous Art
My sci-fi noir, Asteroid Adrift, for Markosia, with co-writer Marcello Bondi, is progressing along. I’ve seen all the roughs but wanted to share a peek at some of the pencils and inks Riccardo Bevilacqua teased online recently. I want some of that coffee!
Boo Bear & Flo: The Dust-Shaped World, Pages 8-9-10
Here are the next few pages of this fun adventure by me and Agnes Garbowska. Aren’t the character designs of the denizens of this dusty world amazing?
Dominion Jack: My Way, Pages 7-8-9
And here’s the finale to My Way, by me and Ron Salas.
My first poll! Let me know what you thought of the story. And comments are welcome as well!
That’s it for this month. Back next month with more chatter, news, and comics. Thanks for reading!
