Pre-order ThunderBoom and more...
Where I chat about my remaining show appearances of 2022, my new books released in October, my new book to preorder, more project previews, free comics, and discussions about AI & Substack chat.
Appearances to the End of 2022
I did my final appearances of 2022 over the last month. In mid-October, I attended Can Con, Ottawa’s sci-fi and fantasy writer’s conference and this past weekend, I returned to Place D’Orleans to do their growing pop-up pop culture show in a mall. Both were well attended and it was especially great to meet up with local writer friends at Can Con and re-connect in person with comics partner in crime, artist Steven Legge at the Orleans show.
October Books with my Name
If you went into comic shops in October, you would have found these books from me. More translation edits for Marcello Bondi’s short stories in Antarctic Press’ Horror Comics and Planet Comics. Order them from your favourite shop or direct from the publisher.
Writer’s Block
Writer’s Block, by Marcello Bondi, Claudio Mastronardi, and Martina Pignedoli has an official release date from the publisher, Markosia. It’s coming out November 30th, available through all online book shops. It’s a fun murder mystery with a twist. I was the editor on the book and I’ll provide links next month when it’s released out in the wild.
Asteroid Adrift, the logo
I’m also co-writing a book with Marcello for Markosia, called Asteroid Adrift. A science fiction noir for fans of Lost and The Prisoner, art is progressing, as you’ve seen in previous posts, but this time, I wanted to show you the logo we’re going with for the cover.
What do you think? We like it, but let us know your thoughts in the poll!
ThunderBoom! - Available for preorder!
Super happy to announce that my middle grade graphic novel that I wrote for Kids Can Press is now available for pre-order! ThunderBoom will be released May 2, 2023. With beautiful art by Claudia Davila, ThunderBoom is a story near and dear to my heart…about Logan, a non-verbal kid with a fertile imagination who faces his fear of masks…by becoming a superhero. Here’s a peek at the cover, along with pre-order links with more details: Amazon, Indigo, Barnes & Noble and Book Shop.
Boo Bear & Flo: The Dust-Shaped World - Pages 12-13-14
This month’s free comics continue with more dusty adventure hijinks from Boo Bear & Flo, by me and Agnes Garbowska.
AI & Making Comics
Over at True North Country Comics, a great Canadian site for interviews and discussions with Canadian creators, they bring up the topic of AI and how the progress of that technology could impact comics and making comics. I chimed in, as did a score of others. You can check it out here.
Substack Chat
Today I’m announcing a brand new addition to my Substack publication: the Briglio's Bookshelf o' Comics subscriber chat.
This is a conversation space in the Substack app for subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout. I’ll post short prompts, thoughts, and updates that come my way, and you can jump into the discussion. You’re more than welcome to contact me there as well by starting a thread.
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app (messages are sent via the app, not email). Turn on push notifications so you don’t miss a chance to join conversation as it happens.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Chat is only on iOS for now, but chat is coming to the Android app soon.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
