Oh the Horror...
As in, Horror Comics, translation edits, an unboxing, more musings, thunder approaching, sneak peeks and free comics.
This update is a week later than I’d hoped. The end of June was a hectic one for me. My first con in over two years - PopX, at the Nepean Sportsplex - was a great experience and a success. So nice to be back and see comics folks and fans again.
Then what followed was all the emotions around my son’s graduation from high school and relaxing over the Canada Day long weekend!
But enough excuses, on to some news...
Starting with some comic books in comic shops now with my name in them!
Oh, the Horror… Comics!
Except I didn’t write these. I’ve done a number of translation edits for Italian writer Marcello Bondi and these two issues of Antarctic Press’ Horror Comics anthology series are the first to come out in print last month. If you dig horror, check them out. His stories, and my edits, will be appearing in this series through to issue 18.
R4ID unveiled!
I wasn’t able to attend TCAF unfortunately. And I don’t have copies of RAID’s fourth anthology collection yet. However, I can show you this video of the unboxing of the book. And if you are patient enough, you will see a couple of pages from the short story I did with Alessandro Micelli flip by. Take a look…
Musings
My book with Source Point Press continues to progress. Inks to the first issue will be done next week, then on to the colours and letters. Dominic is nearly done the pencils to issue 2, a couple of pages left, and the plan is to work on the roughs and pencils to the last two issues over the rest of the summer. Meanwhile, Dom and I worked on a promotional concept about the book. Not finalized yet, needs colour, but here’s a teaser first look at it…
Thunder approaching…
My project with Kids Can Press inches ever closer! We did a review of the book proof and made some tweaks. The book is looking great. After a sensitivity review, we’ll have one last look before it’s ready to go to print. Oh, and the cover! We went through some cover options and they all look awesome. I can’t wait to share once all is finalized. Meanwhile, here’s a couple more pages (one at the top of this newsletter) from the interiors from Claudia as a tease…
Book One files submitted
The Growing Up Enchanted Book One files have been reviewed and submitted to Markosia’s production team. There are some minor lettering fixes that need to be done. We have a new cover, front and back, as well as a gallery of rarely seen pieces to round out the back of the book. Most of it is from Alex Serra’s archives, but we’ve also added a piece I have from Andi Watson. I’ll share some more of Book One after the proofs for it are done so instead, here’s another coloured piece from the progressing colour work on Book Two…
Lob, lob, lob…
On the pitching side of things, I continue to pitch Aftershock, Antarctic Press, and others. And my Alphabetic Al proposal package is nearly ready to be sent to my literary agent and book publisher land. So, positive thoughts, let’s see where these land…
Free Comics
Continuing from last time, here’s the next two pages of Boo Bear & Flo: The Dust-Shaped World by me and Agnes Garbowska. I’ve included one of the pages from last time to refresh the memory banks…
…and here are the next two pages of Dominion Jack as well! Art by Ron Salas and letters by Ed Brisson. With one of the previous pages again to jog the memory…
So, that’s it for this month’s update! If you’re out and about on July 17th, I’ll be at Place D’Orleans for a one-day comic show, sponsored by the good folks at hobby store Entertainment Ink in that mall. Come by and see me! If not, until next time, see you here…
