Fall Previews and more...
Where I chat about con appearances, new releases with my name in them, loads of upcoming project preview pages, more DJ news, and free comics.
Appearances…can be uplifting
It was so great to be back at Ottawa Comic Con, to reconnect with fans, friends and peers. This is my home show so it’s usually the spot where I catch up with everyone…and with the pandemic making this three years since the last show, there was a lot of catching up to do.
My books found many new homes, especially my Scooby-Doo books and the new R4ID anthology, so I was very happy about that!
Next up…Can-Con! Also returning in person after a three-year absence, Can-Con is a conference in Ottawa on Canadian content in speculative arts and literature and runs from October 14th-16th at the Sheraton Hotel on Albert Street. I’ll be in the vendors room all weekend so register if you’re an interested writer or reader and check out not just the books on display, but the insightful panels planned.
Books with my name in them!
Another new book out on the shelves this past month that I worked on. This is a digital shelf, on the website of digital publisher InterPop. I did some translation edits for a dark fantasy story Marcello Bondi wrote for them, called Celestial Hunters. The first few chapters are up on the site, some of it for free, so please do check it out!
Growing Up Enchanted
No news yet on a release date for the colour edition of Book 1 of Growing Up Enchanted. But the colour work by Patrik Mock progresses on Book 2 and I think this preview page needs no introduction, other than… ‘Nuff said!
Muse’s Motel
More preview art…this time from the horror fantasy book I’m doing for Source Point Press, Muse’s Motel. I’m posting two awesome pages, both with pencils by Dominic Bercier. The first page is inked and finished by Hugh Rookwood while the following preview page is inked by Dominic himself. Dominic is inking the reality scenes while Hugh is handling the dream sequences and I’m loving the results so far. Beautiful colours and letters by Steven Legge.
Asteroid Adrift
Rounding out the preview art this month is a few inked pages from the sci-fi noir story I co-wrote with Marcello Bondi for Markosia - Asteroid Adrift. Art by Riccardo Bevilacqua, loving every page that arrives in my inbox from him! I must say that getting new art emails is one of the best parts of being a writer of comics. Seeing the story come to life visually…nothing quite like it.
Dominion Jack news
I can now announce Dominion Jack’s new publication home, along with a tentative release date of the first issue.
Antarctic Press will be publishing Dominion Jack in their superhero anthology series, Exciting Comics. Starting with issue 36 in May 2023. That’s a tentative date for now but that’s where it stands at the moment. They will be publishing all the Dominion Jack stories to date, including the digital ones many of you haven’t read yet. And the plan is to continue with new stories after that, including the team-up story I’m working on with Northguard creator Mark Shainblum and partner-in-crime Hugh Rookwood. Excited to finally have Dominion Jack back out into the world…
Boo Bear & Flo: The Dust-Shaped World, Pages 10-11-12
Only one free comic this month, after completing the first Dominion Jack story last month. But, we continue with more dusty adventure hijinks from Boo Bear & Flo, by me and Agnes Garbowska.
That’s all for this month…until next time!
